Participants who attended our open days in July were able to get a hands-on farm experience and to learn more about the production of organic milk and eggs. The open days were held to raise money for the Trek4Kidz, a supporter of the Starlight Children’s Foundation and over 80 people attended. They were able to hold the 11 week old chickens, see some cows being milked, feed the calves and collect some of the 100 dozen eggs which are laid each day. They also enjoyed a home-cooked morning tea and lunch. We really appreciated the support from the local community and enjoyed welcoming them to our farm. The feedback from those who attended was also very positive, with participants appreciating the chance to be so interactive with the animals.
With thanks to everybody’s support, over $1,200 was raised for the Trek4Kidz. Thanks also go to Norco who supplied organic milk for the days, which produced some very tasty milkshakes. We are holding similar farm visit days in October as part of the Tastings of the Hastings – see the Open Days page for more information.
